Sponge released "Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina) in 1996 as the debut single from their second studio album
Wax Ecstatic.
It performed pretty well for the band, reaching #15 on the Modern Rock Tracks and #11 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks charts.
This song in my opinion is better than "Plowed," even though "Plowed" performed better on the charts and will forever be the song Sponge will be known for. "Plowed" sounds a little like Social Distortion, but "Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)" has more of an STP vibe...which explains why I prefer "Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)."
The video is about a roller derby girl who is looking for a quick way to perform better in the sport. She gets her hands on pills that are said to be the answer, but at the end of the video it becomes apparent that they were not in fact the solution to her problem.
