"Sweating Bullets" was Megadeth's third single from their 5th album
Countdown to Extinction.
It was released in 1993 and it peaked at #27 on the Mainstream Rock Chart that year.
"Sweating Bullets" is about a
schizophrenic guy who is faced with his dark side who tells him he can't be repressed much longer. Soon the guy wakes up with blood stains on his hands and no memory of what happened.
Dimebag Darrell of Pantera loved the song so much he got a tattoo of a black tooth grin in reference to the line, "Someday you too will know my pain and smile its black tooth grin." He also created a drink by that name which is mostly whiskey with a splash of coke.
Megadeth's Dave Mustaine revealed on VH1's
That Metal Show
, that the song was inspired by a friend of his girlfriend (and later, his wife), Pam. This friend suffered from anxiety attacks - Mustaine called her "s--thouse crazy." She would take Pam to a party, have an anxiety spell and leave her; Mustaine would get the call and have to pick her up.
