"You" was Candlebox's second release from their debut album. The single made it to #6 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and #78 on the Hot 100.
Candlebox lead singer, Kevin Martin, got sucked into drugs at a young age and it controlled his life. He stole money from his parents to buy drugs and it was a real problem. When he turned 18 he went to see Midnight Oil (an Austrailian band) and the frontman was so good it made him reconsider his life choices. He told About.com "I woke up the next morning and said, 'That's it,' and I quit. I paid my parents back and I haven't done drugs since. Well, I don't consider mushrooms and anything that's organic or natural to be a drug. So I still smoke pot every now and then. So that song's really about just saying goodbye to dependency."
