Mayors Monday: Mosinee's Brent Jacobson

MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) -- It wasn't just a visit from President Donald Trump in October that excited the city of Mosinee in 2018.

Mayor Brent Jacobson says growth in the city's business park and some new downtown businesses are several other reasons that the needle is pointing up for his community in 2019.

One of those is the excitement surrounding the new Mosinee Brewing Company, which he says is already exceeding expectations.

Jacobson says as a life-long Mosinee native he would expect to see many familiar faces when he goes to the brewery, but every time he's seen more new faces than familiar ones. "It's a positive for me because I know we are getting more people to come into our community."

The brewery does not serve food of its own. Instead, patrons are encouraged to bring food from other Mosinee establishments to enjoy with their brews. Jacobson says that allows the brewery to work in conjunction with businesses that are already open, instead of competing with them directly.

The Mayor also points to growth in the Central Wisconsin Business park near CWA as a positive from the previous year. Specifically the addition of two new businesses; Wisconsin Mechanical Solutions, and Transport Refrigeration.

With that added growth Jacobson is also hoping to focus on new housing developments in the new year, including the completion of a luxury apartment complex on the edge of the city. A new housing development with up to 30 single-family homes is also planned for the eastern side of town near the Wisconsin River.

Jacobson says he's also proud of the fact that his staff was able to keep the city's property tax rates flat going into the new year, even if that means some services may not see growth.
