STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- The long-awaited Masters of Business Administration program at UW-Stevens Point has cleared its final hurdle.

The school announced on Thursday that The Higher Learning Commission, UW-Stevens Point’s accrediting body, has approved the program. Meaning the school can now begin marketing it to prospective students.

"What I'm most excited about is what it means for the Central Wisconsin region," said Lyna Matesi, the director of the UWSP MBA program. "We've worked with our business advisory council to design a program that is going to be valuable to employers and employees in the area."

Classes for the MBA program will start in September of 2019. The school will offer both 12 and 24-month completion options for students. Classes will take place both on-campus and online, and the plan is to have the UWSP Wausau campus play a key role in the program as well.

"We would love to see Wausau be a business-centric campus for us," Matesi. "The MBA will be available to people who want to study full-time in Wausau, and who want to study part-time in Wausau."

When fully implemented, the MBA program will generate enough tuition revenue to cover its costs. It will be staffed using currently available resources.

Matesi says the application process is now open for the first class, and anyone who would like to discuss the program further can reach out to her at [email protected] or by calling 715-346-4988. "I'd love to help you discern whether our MBA is the right program to take your career to the next level."

If you do apply early Matesi says she could have a surprise in store for you, saying she's so happy about the milestone she may just buy the first person who applies to the program lunch. "If you are the first applicant, lunch is on me," she said, as long as the offer won't violate any NCAA student-athlete eligibility rules of course.
