WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- The stalled Riverlife Villages project now has a recommended developer.

On Wednesday evening the economic development committee went into closed session to discuss the two proposals presented in early October.

Chris Schock the city's Planning, Community, and Economic Development Director, explains what committee members and staff did over the past month to prepare to recommend a developer. "We then have been reviewing them and doing our background research on the different proposers. And kind of fleshing out their vision to carry the project forward."

After completing research on 500 East Bay LLC and Gorman and Company's proposals, the committee recommended the city go with Gorman and Company, based out of Madison. Schock says, "We've always been very confident about the marketability of the Riverlife Project. And we're excited to see it move forward. And tonight the committee had kind of recommended that the selection of Gorman and Company to continue that project."

Gorman and Company would take over the already existing foundations originally built by developer Mike Frantz. The recommendation now moves onto the city council, who will make the final decision on if Gorman and Company will continue the Riverlife Project development.

At their meeting on Wednesday, the committee also discussed a different proposal for Riverlife land by Dave Johnson. That proposal is still in its early stages and needs to be reworked by the developer before the committee can take action on it.

The committee also approved the sale of land parcels to Central Wisconsin Real Estate at Bugbee Avenue and Sherman Street for new single-family home developments.
