Snow routes explained in Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza took time to post a video about the city's procedures for snow removal in the midst of Tuesday's storm.

"Basically, we have about 150 miles of road here in the city. We have a dozen routes and fourteen trucks," said Wiza.

In events like this, he says all hands are on deck to keep everything clear especially emergency routes. "Every truck is out, and the city crews are doing the best they can to keep the streets clear."

Streets in Stevens Point are classified as either A, B, or C routes. Wiza says the A and B routes are given higher priority, with the majority of C routes being less used or residential streets. While those streets might not get immediate attention, Wiza says they will get to them eventually. He adds that in many cases for those living on a C street, a plowed A or B street is no more than 2 or 3 blocks away.

Wiza said the best advice he can give residents is to give each other a break because we are in this together. "Winters kind of stink, but Spring, Summer, and Fall are pretty awesome. Let's look forward to Spring, and be courteous to our plow drivers. We are all in the same boat here."

A snow emergency remains in effect for Stevens Point until 7 AM on Wednesday.
