MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- A major hotel developer is still interested in coming to Marshfield. That's according to Mayor Bob McManus who says the developer is still enthusiastic about the project even though earlier this week the city's Common Council failed to form a 'TIF,' or 'Tax Increment Finance' district to facilitate the project.
"Without the 'TIF' we all were under the impression that the developer might not stay," McManus explained. "The developer the following day said they are going to stay. They're going to continue to bring the hotel to Marshfield."
There could still be a few hurdles for the project though, which failed to get that TIF approval from the council. According to the mayor, "Now it's still got to go before the Planning Commission, and still has to get eventual approval from the Common Council."
McManus says even though there's some opposition to the project, it's really great to see the process at work. "There were a lot of citizens here at the meeting on Tuesday. There were local folks that own hotels that were here to voice their opinions. It was great to see the citizens of Marshfield really get involved."
That proposed development would be a $5.2 million dollar Hampton Inn and Suites located on the site of a vacated by the Knights of Columbus hall on West Upham Street near the Marshfield Clinic's medical complex.
