VILLAGE OF WESTON, WI (WSAU) -- Water customers in Weston will be receiving notice of some missed bacteria testing during the final quarter of 2018.
Public works director Keith Donner says his staff is required to submit one test every three months to the DNR from the village's groundwater sources. "It monitors the quality of the water coming out of the ground and into the treatment plant. After that, we add our treatment chemicals and so forth, so it's not an indicator of what [customers] receive."
Donner said the testing was actually done at around the same time the DNR sent them notification of the non-compliance, and the samples did come back clear.
The village will not be fined or otherwise punished, but notices of the missed test will be sent to customers. Donner says he and his staff are also planning to make certain future tests aren't missed. "It's a matter of making it a priority and collecting samples in the first part of the quarter rather than leaving them for later in the quarter and possibly missed. The holidays may have had something to do with that in this case."
He adds that residents were never in any danger and the water remains safe to use.
