MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- In Marshfield, city officials are looking at any impact on traffic that the Marshfield School District's new sports facilities project may have on the surrounding area.
Public Works Director Dan Knoeck says the project includes a new multi-million dollar stadium that'll be completed by later this year. "As part of the athletic facilities being developed on the high school property, a traffic impact analysis was completed looking at the Becker Road corridor as well as the Peach and Becker Road intersection."
New traffic controls proposed for the area include a new stoplight, along with the addition of some left-turn lanes and other concrete markings, and some new signage. But no actual new road construction is expected according to Knoeck. "We have no street construction proposed. The changes to the traffic signals at Peach and Becker, we expect there'll be some cost share on that but we have to sort that out with the school district."
Knoeck says parking is being looked at too, especially on narrow residential streets near the new stadium. "We're looking at removing parking on one side or the other in those residential neighborhoods so there's always room for traffic to get by emergency vehicles."
That traffic and parking plan is expected to be voted on at the next Board of Public Works meeting on January 28th.
