STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- Stevens Point native Cole Caufield heard his name called as a first round pick in the National Hockey League Draft on Friday night. The former SPASH standout was taken with the 15th overall selection by the Montreal Canadians.
Caufield had been in the USA Hockey Development program and had scored 72 goals in 64 games with the US U18 squad the last two years. He also is signed to play with the Wisconsin Badgers this coming season.
Caufield, who's brother plays for the Badgers as well, spent two years in high school with the Stevens Point Panthers scoring 82 goals and being named to the Valley All-Confrerence team in both seasons.
